A Road Trip with Grandma

Ellen, an energetic, 68-year-old grandma, decided to take her grandkids, 6-year-old Mia and 8-year-old Liam, on a road trip from Chicago to St. Louis to visit their cousins. Ellen hired a professional driver and a sleek, black SUV to handle the five-hour drive, so the three of them could spend some together-time on the journey.

As they piled into the luxury car, the kids’ eyes widened at the plush seats and snacks Ellen had packed. Their driver, Marcus, greeted them warmly and showed them the refrigerator stocked with drinks and more snacks. With no driving to worry about, Ellen and the kids sang family songs together, and their laughter filled the car. Liam told stories from school, while Mia pointed out funny-shaped clouds through the tinted windows.

About halfway through the trip, they stopped at a roadside diner. Marcus handled the car and parking so Ellen could focus on treating the kids to milkshakes.

Back on the road, they played “I Spy”, and Ellen told some family stories, including stories about her own childhood road trips. The kids, usually glued to iPhone and iPad screens, instead enjoyed spending quality time with each other and with Grandma. They could just not stop giggling and asking questions!

When the three of them arrived in St. Louis, their cousins rushed out to greet them. Mia and Liam bubbled with energy and talked all about their trip’s highlights. Ellen smiled at Marcus, grateful for the uninterrupted time with her grandkids.
